These amendments to Approved Document L1 set out revised guidance on what
is reasonable provision when installing gas and oil fired hot water central
heating boilers in new and existing dwellings from 1 April 2005.
This Guide has been written to help heating installers carry out a condensing
boiler installation assessment using the procedure as set out in Appendix
G to Approved Document L1 as revised on 1 April 2005.

Intended to support the inclusion of Low or Zero Carbon energy sources in
Part L & approved documents & provide information to enable the reader
to decide if a particular LZC energy source is appropriate for the building
under consideration.
Approved Document L2B gives guidance on how to satisfy Part L (Conservation
of fuel and power) of the Building Regulations in common situations.

Part L - Conservation of Fuel and Power
Part L1 is specific to dwellings. It controls the insulation values of building
elements, the allowable area of windows, doors and other openings, air
permeability of the structure, the heating efficiency of boilers and the
insulation and controls for heating appliances and systems together with
hot water storage and lighting efficiency. It also sets requirements for
SAP and Carbon Index ratings for dwellings. Further regulations also require
the advertising of these ratings.
ADL1 is supported by a set of robust standard construction details.
Part L2 relates to all building uses other than dwellings. In addition to
insulation requirements and limitation of openings of the building fabric
this part considers solar heating and heat gains to structures, it controls
heating, mechanical ventilation and air conditioning systems, lighting
efficiency, space heating controls, air permeability plus air tightness testing
of larger buildings, solar emission, the certification, testing and commissioning
of heating and ventilation systems, and requirements for energy meters.
